Wes Munson Wins Dutch's Trading Post Big Buck Contest

Picture
November, 2011 - With 90 entries, Dutch’s Trading Post in Fond du Lac saw a lot of great contenders poised to take the winnings in this year’s Big Buck Contest.  This year’s winning trophy buck was tagged on the final day of the gun hunting season by Wes Munson of Fond du Lac.

Munson’s 13-point buck was taken at 8:30 a.m. on the final day of the gun hunting season. He shot it on new Dutch’s Trading Post owners, Gary and Rose Boyke’s land just Southeast of Fond du Lac. The buck had an inside spread of 20 inches and has been scored at 164 7/8. This is the biggest buck that Munson, 24, has shot.

The second place buck was taken by Paul Muche of Van Dyne. Muche’s 11-point, 20 2/8 inch spread buck was shot in Buffalo County and was taken at 7:15 a.m. on opening morning of the gun hunting season. Muche has hunted all his life, but says this is the biggest buck he has shot during the nine-day gun season.

Third place in the Big Buck Contest went to Paul Pucker of Rosendale. His 10-point, 19 6/8 inch buck was shot just 10 minutes into opening day of gun hunting in Fond du Lac County.

For the 2011 nine-day gun hunting season, Dutch’s Trading Post registered 361 total deer, 170 legal bucks and 191 antlerless deer.

Dutch’s Trading Post is a locally-owned and operated sporting goods store, specializing in hunting and fishing accessories for the avid outdoorsman. The store was recently purchased by Gary and Rose Boyke of Fond du Lac and is run by Dave (Tuffy) Munson.
